Before you award a fit-out or a warehouse build, verify your contractor's BCA workhead, grade and track record. Here's how to do it in 10 minutes.
Every published tender in Singapore lists a required BCA workhead — CW01 for general building, ME05 for electrical, and so on. But most private owners don't check the registry before signing. Ten minutes on the BCA Directory can prevent months of grief.
1. Match the workhead to your scope
A CW02 civil contractor is not automatically qualified to lead a full building fit-out. Ask the contractor for a screenshot of their live BCA registration and confirm the workhead and financial grade match the value of your job.
2. Check the tendering limit
Each grade caps the value of public works a contractor can bid for. Private jobs aren't capped, but the grade is a strong signal of financial capacity, insurance and past compliance.
3. Cross-check bizSAFE and MOM
bizSAFE Star means the company has an audited WSH management system. For projects with more than a handful of workers on site, that's not optional. Also confirm every deployed worker holds a valid work permit and trade certification.
In short
A licensed contractor will hand you all of this on a single PDF within an hour. If they can't, that's your answer.
