ACMV controls vendors love to sell the full BMS story. Sometimes that's right — often a targeted upgrade delivers 80% of the benefit at 30% of the cost. Three questions decide it.
1. What's the utility bill telling you?
If the site's kWh/sqm/month is within 10% of a comparable facility, controls aren't your biggest problem. Look at chiller plant efficiency and building envelope first.
2. How old are the field devices?
Modern controls headends are only as good as the sensors under them. Twenty-year-old pneumatic actuators feeding a modern BMS is money badly spent.
3. Who's going to operate it?
A high-end BMS with no trained facilities team ends up in hand mode within 6 months. Match the tech to the operator.
